Animal-Assisted Activity Research

Ghent University’s Laboratory for Ethology
In addition to the ground-breaking work in Animal-Assisted Interventions being conducted by Drs. Meers and Ödberg, the Laboratory for Ethology studies behaviors in dolphins, gerbils, voles, domestic livestock (horses as well as pigs and cattle), etc., etc. Research includes ensuring animal welfare, proper handling and housing, environmental enrichment, and other areas of animal behavior (e.g., foraging strategies). They also offer consultations to animal handlers. Neat stuff.

Dipartimento di Scienze Sperimentali Veterinarie
Among the many areas of research being pursued at the Università di Padova’s Dipartimento di Scienze Sperimentali Veterinarie are experiments in anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, and parasitology. Dr. Normando specializes in studying and correcting mal-adaptive behaviors in horses, but her many interests in collaborations have involved her in a wide range of scientific pursuits.
